Miles' First Day of Preschool

Today Miles had an open house for his 2's preschool program. Jeremy is off work this week and went along too. He doesn't officially start on his own until next Thursday, but he was pretty excited today and loved wearing his backpack. As soon as he saw the cars and trucks at school, he felt right at home! The teachers were very nice too.

This year Tyson will be attending 4's preschool four mornings a week, and Miles will be going two mornings. They are at different church preschools, but they are located pretty close together and the drop-off and pick-up times work out well. I'm excited for both boys to get the structure and socialization that these types of environments will provide!

Fire trucks and tractors, these are a few of his favorite things...

Tyson's First Day of Preschool

Tyson started preschool today, with a one hour class while I attended as well. He wasn't super excited to go at first (hence the distant stare in the first photo below), but he really warmed up and enjoyed himself eventually. He'll go for a full morning tomorrow!

Tyson wasn't too thrilled to take this photo

A little happier once we got to school

He traced his name and added an extra "s" for good measure

Heading home!

Here's a comparison from last year. He looks like such a big kid now!

Best of Summer 2012

As summer vacation officially winds to a close for us (Tyson starts his second year of preschool tomorrow!), I wanted to do a recap of some fun activities we did since school was last in session.

So here we go, in no particular order...

25 Fun Things We Did This Summer

1. We attended and hosted two different LKBCs (Little Kids Book Clubs) with other preschoolers.
2. We vacationed in the Wisconsin Dells.

3. Tyson attended several different fun day camps.
4. We attended (and danced to) some lunchtime concerts downtown.
5. Tyson took t-ball.
6. Both boys did swim lessons, and we spent a lot of time at the pool.
7. Good times were had at the weekly Kids Run for Fun.

8. We saw the play If You Give a Cat a Cupcake.
9. We saw a parade, and attended our street's annual 4th of July block party. Always a blast!

10. Tyson took an early reading class and has a new interest in letters and words.

11. We celebrated several friends' birthdays.
12. We went to the movie theater and saw Happy Feet 2 - Miles' first "big" movie, and Tyson's second!
13. We saw Shakespeare (twice for me!).
14. We saw a huge train exhibit in someone's backyard (Miles was in heaven).
15. We rode an Amtrak train.

16. We played at parks and went to a lot of great playdates!

17. We went to a local nature center.

18. We threw rocks in the river.
19. We beat the heat and made an ice treasure chest.

20. We did some simple science experiments with baking soda and vinegar.

21. We shot a ton of hoops (hundreds... thousands maybe?).

22. Our backyard got a boost with a new swing for the adults, and a glider swing and curly slide for the kids.

23. We worked on our engineering skills and built a lot of train tracks.

24. We saw bulldozers up close and personal.

25. We registered the boys for the 2013-14 school year. That will be Tyson's Kindergarten year, and Miles' first year of preschool. They'll be at the same school!

Whew, that was a fun summer! I'm a little sad to see it coming to a close, but excited to see what the new school year and upcoming fall season will bring.

What fun things did you do this summer?

Sewing Project Update

I have been sewing away like crazy, so I figured it was high time I gave a Mom-Made update! Here are the orders I wrapped up recently:

Small/Medium Hybrid Tote Bag for J.J.

And this next batch makes up my first international order - from Australia! This sweet gal contacted me awhile back for Christmas presents (or "pressies", as she calls them) for her daughter and a couple other lucky girls. I finished everything up this past week and will be sending a package to the land down under very soon. Thanks very much, Miss C!
