I spotted this alternative to paper towels on Etsy and thought it was brilliant. After the Christmas order rush (with new industrial snap press in hand), it seemed to be the right time to try these out for our family.

I made a set of 12 towels using cotton and absorbent chenille backing. I love how you can roll them on a regular paper towel tube. Jeremy looked at me like I had lost my marbles when I first showed them to him, but I think he's coming around to the idea!
We haven't made it through all 12 yet, but as I'm washing them (with other towels) I'm just sticking them in a drawer until the roll is empty, and then I'll refill it (the idea of the same ones getting used and washed over and over again bothers me... I'm weird).
|That's 72 snaps total, in case you're wondering :-)|
We can use them for almost everything we previously used paper towels for, except covering food in the microwave (the snaps would melt). We drain bacon and sausage on them without a problem. If the grease stains don't come out in the wash, I'm not concerned! Overall, I'm very pleased with the softness, absorbency, and reusable aspect of these.
If you're interested in similar towels, do a search for "snapping kitchen towels" on Etsy, and you'll find lots of great print and color options! I don't have plans to make these to sell, but please consider giving one of the Etsy sellers a try if you are interested in a set for your own kitchen.
Update: I've found that washing these on hot with a small squirt of original Dawn dish detergent and an extra rinse really helps to fight odor caused by grease. Hope this helps you too!
