Cousins + Grandparents Visit

We enjoyed an early Christmas visit from the boys' southern grandparents and cousins last weekend. It was LOUD with four boys aged 4, 6, 10, and 10 in the house. But it was really great! They had so much fun, and we enjoyed having everyone stay at our house. Tyson and Miles are asking when their cousins are going to come back and visit again!

Photos Around the House

I hope everyone is having a wonderful holiday season! Our Christmas was very nice, but went by a little too fast. I'll be posting pictures soon, but in the meantime I wanted to share some random photos I've taken of the boys around the house during the month of December. Enjoy!

Stretchy Band Craziness

What are stretchy bands, you might ask? Well, they are something you NEED if you have young, rambunctious children!

I stumbled upon a blog post on And Next Comes L for "homemade stretchy resistance bands". It seemed like something my kids would enjoy, so I picked up some spandex the next time I was at the fabric store and whipped up a couple. It's just a long strip of stretchy fabric with the short ends sewn together to form a loop. I figured if the kids weren't into it, I hadn't wasted much time or money making the bands.

You can suck your thumb and still look cool wearing a stretchy band

It's Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas

We are certainly getting into the Christmas spirit over here! The kids seem to be the perfect ages (4 and 6) to enjoy the holiday festivities and are very helpful and into the various tasks (decorating, baking, putting up lights, etc.). And I love the fact that I can decorate as much as I want and don't have to worry too much about little fingers grabbing or breaking things! Those early years were amazing and went by too fast, as we Moms all know...

Anyway, I just wanted to share some pictures of decorating we've been doing around the ole' homestead. Fun fun!

December Sewing Orders

I feel like I've got a pretty good handle on Christmas orders, and other busy tasks associated with this time of year seem to be falling into place. I'm sure there are some things I'm forgetting, but hey, everything seems under control right now! :-)

Here are some sewing orders recently wrapped up (yes, chevron is still kind of a big deal)...

Household Chores

The boys' new favorite evening activity is washing dishes. Needless to say, Jeremy and I are into it! Tyson came home last week after preparing for the Friendship Feast at school and announced that he knows how to wash dishes and wipe down tables and counters. Most evenings since then, he has been washing the plastic dishes after we load most of the dishwasher, and Miles is helping too. It was the cutest thing watching Tyson show Miles how to do it.

The Polar Express 2014

This was our first year riding the Polar Express train! Tickets sell out in June and I actually got some this year. The kids were so excited, and the train ride did not disappoint.

Trains, cookies, hot cocoa, dancing, singing, a North Pole sighting, Santa, jingle bells, Frosty... what more could a child want?! The magic of Christmas is priceless. I hope the boys are still into it and we can go again next year!

Friendship Feast

Last week at school the kids enjoyed their annual Friendship Feast. It is held the day before Thanksgiving and the teachers prepare special dishes with each class. On the day of the feast, the kids have a special lunch in the Commons where parents serve bite-sized portions of all the Thanksgiving dishes to the kids.

Thanksgiving Day

My family had a very nice Thanksgiving and hope yours did too! My Aunt Linda was visiting from Colorado and we always enjoy seeing her, even if it's only once or twice a year. The kids really bonded with her and I think they wore each other out with the games they were playing. :-)

My parents also kept the kids at their house for two nights. It was great having a little break this weekend, and I know the kids had a blast!

Mom-Made Sales

It's time for another Mom-Made sewing update! Several infinity scarves sold when I ran my flash sale last week, and reduced my inventory quite a bit. I also just finished up a big Christmas order for The Gingerbread House, but some of those pictures are still on my camera and will be posted very soon.

Reminder: There are only FOUR days left to get those custom orders in for Christmas completion!

Old + New Sewing Orders

Hi there friends! I have several sewing orders to post here to get all caught up. Some of these are pretty old and were taken in not-so-great lighting and such. Oh well!

I have ended my year-and-a-half partnership with girl Friday selling my sewing items, and have all existing inventory back at my house. I've been going through everything and am trying to get my pictures and recorded sales up to date.

Christmas orders are coming in, and I am getting very busy. And wouldn't you know it, my sewing machine is acting up! I have to take it in for a professional cleaning in a week and cross my fingers that it doesn't need anything else! In the meantime, I do have a backup machine, but it isn't very user-friendly. :-)

Anyway, here is what has sold. Warning: picture overload ahead.

Fall Sewing Orders

Welcome! It's time for a Mom-Made sewing update. I feel like I haven't been sewing as much recently, and don't have as much time as I used to have for sewing (except on weekends). But Christmas orders are starting to come in, so I will have to make time to fit everything in!

The Cat and His Monkey Friends

Well, our outdoor cat Biscuit has turned into an indoor-outdoor cat. You're not surprised, are you??

He has a litter box in the garage and likes to hang out there sometimes. He also darts in the house every chance he gets, which is a lot, considering how many times we come and go throughout the day. He still uses his food dishes and cat house on the side porch when he's outside, as he does need his daily "prowling" time.

Kids' Halloween Costumes

Well, a very eventful Halloween has come and went! As I mentioned in a previous post, we celebrated Halloween in several different fun ways leading up to October 31st. It was great giving the kids so many opportunities to wear their costumes. Although at times I was thinking, seriously, I have to wash those green and black clothes AGAIN?!

Halloween at Our House

Whew. I feel like we have been decorating for and celebrating Halloween for weeks now, and it is finally here! The kids enjoyed a haunted trail in town, trunk or treating, our first big Halloween party at our house for their classmates, and a parade & party at school yesterday.

Tonight we were actually going to skip trick or treating (gasp!) because of the cold weather and pre-Halloween candy overload, but I think we are going to go visit a couple former neighbors and then come home and relax with a Halloween movie.

Decorating With Natural Elements

It's been fun trying to bring more natural, outdoor elements into our home to give it a more earthy texture and feel. Now that we have a large yard, there are plenty of options to choose from. I'm still experimenting to see which clippings hold up and last longer than others.

Fall Family Photos

We finally got our family pictures taken, and I wanted to share some favorites with you all. It's been 2.5 years since we did this!

We had a chilly evening earlier this month with the very talented Chandi from Chandi Kesler Photography. She did a fabulous job! Can't wait to get these babies printed and framed.

Festive Fall Porch

I wanted to share some photos of our side porch decorated for fall. I don't do anything too crazy, and haven't gotten any real pumpkins yet. The front porch is decorated pretty minimally. I focused my efforts on the side porch since it is used most often.

Train Ride & Railway Museum Trip

I'm sure I've mentioned before that our boys are obsessed with trains. Especially Tyson! We've been "tracking" trains for almost a year now, around town. We finally made the hour drive to a railway museum where you can ride a diesel train. The kids were thrilled and loved exploring all the rail cars, which made up the museum. It was just a really fun family weekend trip. Yeah trains!

Gotta frame this one!

Happy Monday! I'm happy to now be officially offering custom, handmade nursery items. Recently I have been getting more requests and orders for these items, so it seemed appropriate to add them to the Mom-Made Sewing Shop.

Blue Chalk Painted Accent Table

It's been awhile since I refinished this little side table and found the perfect spot for it in our new house. I just completely forgot to blog about it. And I guess since we've lived here almost three months, there's no need to call it the "new" house anymore... :-)

Friday Favorites (Back to School Edition)

It's time for a new week of Friday Favorites. I will call this the back-to-school edition!

Hope you all are enjoying these picks. It's fun compiling them. Although I think I may move to a once per month format. I don't know how bloggers keep up with a weekly post schedule when I can barely keep up with my once a week Friday Favorites!

Anyway, here we go...

North Carolina Trip

A couple weeks ago Jeremy and I took the kids to North Carolina. I am just finally getting around to blogging about it! This was our first big driving trip for the boys. It ended up being a 15 hour drive when you factor in stops and road construction. On the way there, we split it into two days. Coming back, we did all 15 hours in one day. It was pretty unbelievable how good they were in the car! Of course, we were prepared with plenty of activities, movies, and snacks, but they did great overall with minimal whining or bathroom breaks. We all really enjoyed driving through the mountains (well, except maybe Jeremy, the driver) and seeing different parts of the country.

I hope this means more road trips are forthcoming now that we know what the boys can handle!

He looks thrilled, no?

Another First Day of School in the Books

How can it be? Summer vacation is over, just like that! It was fun, but man did it go by fast. I've enjoyed seeing other "first day of school" pictures, and we had ours today.

Tyson appears pretty bored with this pose

Tyson is excited to be a first grader in a multiage classroom with first, second, and third grades together. Miles is going into 4's preschool, four mornings a week, in the classroom right next to his big brother. We have partial days this week and then start in with the regular schedule next week. It will be quite the adjustment from our very loose summer "schedule".

Friday Favorites

Hi there! I can't believe it's Friday again. This week has been a bit exasperating with the kids. I think they are sensing the end of summer and giving it one last hurrah with all their energy, which is very draining for me! However, it's still sad that school starts on Wednesday for us... :-(

Hope you all enjoy another week of picks!

Repurposed Rustic Shutters

Hi there! Today I'm sharing a quick little project to add some farmhouse charm to our new abode. Last winter I acquired a pair of vintage wood shutters from my cousin, which were used as a photography prop around Christmas time. They were red (more of a burgundy) and perfectly rustic and chippy. Now that I scaled back and am not taking pictures as often, I decided to give them new life indoors.

Recent Mom-Made Sewing Orders

Hi guys, I have resurfaced and am sewing again! I took a much-needed break during our move in early June and it just stretched out longer than I expected. Orders were slow and we were busy doing all the tasks that come along with moving, arranging, and decorating a new house.

But sure enough things have started to pick back up again, and I'm happy to be back doing what I enjoy. In addition to the orders below, I've sewn up some pajamas for Tyson and also some travel pillows for both kids.

Coming up after this will be some cute additions for a baby girl's nursery and some appliqued super hero capes. Can't wait to work on those!

Our New Little Friend

After almost two months of living in the country, we had been contemplating whether we would acquire any animals. When, how many, what kind. I'm not quite ready to turn this place into a farm, but a pet or two would be nice. The boys have been asking/begging for a pet on and off for the last year or so, and we figured it was almost time. Tyson is still somewhat leery of dogs, and they have asked for a cat, guinea pig, hamster, or rabbit.

We're total cat people, by the way. We had to give away our two cats of eight years when Miles was born because one of them did not adjust well to a second child. And let's face it, we were both stressed out, and two cats seemed like too much when caring for a baby and a toddler. Sad, but that was four years ago.

Anyway, one evening last week this kitty appeared in our yard, and after taking a little while getting acquainted, we're happy to call him our new (outdoor) pet friend.

Nature Pretties

A couple nights ago just before sunset, I grabbed my camera and biked down our lane and a little ways down the road. It was peaceful and quiet, just a perfect summer evening in the country. Here's what I came across...

4th of July 2014

This year for the 4th of July we went to my hometown where they have a big town-wide celebration. We had a great time with family... beautiful weather, great food, fun, and fantastic fireworks! We are covered in bug bites and were pretty exhausted the next day (as evidenced by the last snapshot below), but who cares?

I didn't do a great job with my camera, but here are a few pictures that I managed to snap that day.

Country Living, Part 2

I've finally started decorating at the new house, and that's been fun. We still have unpacked boxes in the basement, and the garage is a disaster, but we're not in a big hurry to work on those. The good news is it feels like HOME here now and we are really enjoying it! And gradually crossing little projects and tasks off the ole' to do list always feels good, too.
